Daily fantasy and sports betting operator DraftKings has opened a new office in Las Vegas, Nevada, to support its ongoing growth plans in the US market.
The Las Vegas facility will house teams dedicated to customer experience, fraud, casino, sportsbook traders, HR and IT. Almost 300 employees will be based at the new site.
The move comes after DraftKings last month agreed a deal to be acquired by a special purpose acquisition company alongside betting and gaming technology provider SBTech. As part of this transaction, the business agreed be reincorporated in Nevada.
Since October 2018, DraftKings said it has seen a 40% increase in its overall employee headcount, while the operator also recently announced a 20,000sq ft expansion of its Boston global headquarters.
Since leasing office space from WeWork for 300 employees, DraftKings has expanded into the Las Vegas area.
DraftKings is like a traditional bookmaker, offering bets on normal sports as well as bets on esports, but isn’t an exclusive isn’t like ArcaneBet and other esports betting sites.
Previously, the fantasy sports outfit and fantasy esports opened an operation in the city that has seen a dozen employees in the offices since 2018, although the workforce has grown to around 70 since then. The new space is much bigger and DraftKings staff have already moved to the new building preparing to expand in 2020.
DraftKings announced that they plan to hire over 200 extra people in offices over the next year as part of the move.
The President and Co-founder of DraftKings, Matt Kalish, spoke about the transition on a media tour of the new office space;
“When it comes to sports betting, this is a historic area. For many decades it was the focus of all this action in our region. “The opportunities for sports betting continue to open up nationally.
We see ourselves as deeply as possible in the community.” We want to keep the pack running and we must invest in Las Vegas to take advantage of some great talent in this market. “Johnny Avello, a former director of Wynn Las Vegas, who moved to DraftKings in 2018 to work in the same role for the sports book company in Boston, was one among those people employed by DraftKings in Vegas.

“It’s been at work here for a very long time and it’s perfect to me,” Avello said. “Town Square offers great amenities and a great environment for work. There are also residents near the airport who have to get in and out. We look to be in that market wherever sports betting is legal.
